We kicked off 2012 in a big way by introducing our Industry Voices at PPAI Expo. Things have settled down a bit since then, so we took a moment to ask this talented group of suppliers, distributors and service providers what they think the main theme or big idea will be in 2012.
These are some smart people. Here’s their first big idea for change:
A re-occurring theme among our voices was increased responsibility among the industry, including cause-related marketing, social entrepreneurship, and a focus on product safety and social responsibility.
Founder of TAG! The Creative Source Tonia Allen Gould thinks the big change is social entrepreneurship.
“Businesses will attach themselves to causes, and the social entrepreneurs who run those businesses will discover ways to solve domestic and global problems by establishing goals to overcome them through non-profit or for-profit affiliations. Think Tom’s Shoes. Social change is powerful. I can’t wait to see companies in our industry working harder to make a difference.”
Heidi Thorne, president of Thorne Communications and promowithpurposeshop.com, believes increased economic responsibility will be on the forefront.
“I think the watchwords for 2012 will be ‘conservation’ and ‘preservation,’ and I’m not just talking about green issues. People are finding ways to do more with less, primarily due to economic pressures rather than concern for the environment.”
Founder of Incentives West Mark Shinn is all about safety.
“Safety, wellness and recognition will be stronger than ever. Suppliers, distributors and representative organizations that continue to stay informed and updated on compliance (both social and safety), technology, supply chain strength and customer service, will be the ones that will show continued growth and profitability.”
Paul Kiewiet, MAS, said this about 2012: “Those who are embracing the new rules of marketing, committing themselves to learning and doing, and rolling with the changes will have an exciting ride. The main theme for 2012 will be ‘Change Is …’ Each one of us can fill in the blank.”
